How Dignity Has Left Us

Can a society live without it?

“You’re not leaving this house looking like that!”. “We do not go out looking like that!”. Sound familiar? If so, then you come from parents who carried a strong sense of dignity.

In this modern world it is common to see countless people who look like they are not doing very well. They are unkept, wearing rags and un-groomed. As I peer out at them, I wonder what has failed in their lives that has led them to such devastation? Then they get into a newer dirty luxury vehicle.

What the hell? Did I miss something here?

People often have means but have no desire to carry themselves with any kind of standard. When did people stop looking in the mirror before they left the house?

Just as evil begets evil, so do bad societal behaviors. When a person sees someone act or do, they may be inclined to follow suit. Apathy to ones self appearance is no different.

That’s why at certain retail establishments (ones where they are apparently saving money and living better) the checkout lines look like a “who rolled out of a bed into a dumpster runway show?”

Societal restrictions are controlled by peer behavior.
