“I need a vacation from my vacation”

-Everyone who has ever gone on vacation

A long time ago (somewhere in the neighborhood of 22 years or so) A group of friends and I took a vacation. This was the first time I ever went on a trip like this.

I had never gone on vacation with a group of friends. It was always family or significant others. Little did I realize this trip would later form my understanding of true relaxation.

We were from Pennsylvania and were heading somewhere that I had never heard of before. We were going to The Outer Banks in North Carolina. I had no idea what to expect.

I was accustomed to a beach town that had a boardwalk and that usual night life. You know the kind; the music playing from the carousel, the unmistakable sounds blasting out of the arcade, the 15 tee shirt stores withing 3 blocks, etc…

Normally I’d go to one of these types of beaches, stay in a hotel and live restaurant to restaurant until I was tired of eating and spending money.

This trip was not going to be that at all. We were a group of 6 “adults” — and instead of a hotel we were staying in a rented house (never heard of that before). I asked what there was to do? After all…
