You Need to Adapt in Life
Life often sucks — be ready for it
The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. That is a loose translation from the famous Robert Burns — a Scottish poet from yesteryear.
I thought of that phrase while performing one of the household duties bestowed upon me.
I was analyzing the dishes in the sink and negotiating a plan of organization in the dishwasher. (As a guy would) I placed the bowls and small plates where they’d fit and then the larger items just wouldn’t fit where I’d hoped.
After a bit of re-arranging I thought, this is a lot like life.
Often times our best laid plans have to be changed and we all need to be willing to accept that. Stubborn perseverance can quite the obstacle to overcome for many who believe things should be one way and not another. They struggle to grasp the concept of adaptation to the changing situations.
Life throws curve balls at us all. More often than not it also hurls cannon balls. Being ready to make slight adjustments — change plans — and adapt to prevent future struggle is key.
There’s no need to muck things up by sticking to a flawed plan. Before we end up fighting a larger problem later — sometimes, it’s best to just stop, think, and re-load the dishwasher.
